you see the capitol dome. thank you for joining us for fox 5 morning news. i'm gurvir dhindsa. without any more hesitation, let's go over to tucker to find out what is happening with earl. it is huge, tuck. >> and it is getting bigger. let's go right back to it. category 2 hurricane. maximum winds, 105 miles per hour. the good news is the eye of the storm will stay just offshore during the next several hours. even though the beach communities from the vines right up to southern new england are going to take a beating, this could be a lot worse as this is a major storm. a lot of cloud cover across the washington area. when you head out this morning, there will be clouds. we'll go partly sunny this afternoon but you can see a lot of rain showers. bands of rain associated with earl starting to make their way inland not only in north carolina but in southern virginia and not too long here, even the maryland beaches will start to get in on the rain. let's look it the temperatures here in washington. we are now 78 degrees. with all the cloud cover, we are not cooling off overnight. 75 in fre

's will thomas tacks us to frederick, maryland for this one. -- takes us to frederick, maryland for this one. >> reporter: urbana public library. a thousand people a day pass through here but it is what a collection supervisor discovered outside in the book drop friday that prompted frederick county official to spring into action. >> we were especially fortunate because our circulation supervisor would was doing that task used to work in the hospitality industry so she was trainedded and looking for exactly this kind of bug. >> reporter: elizabeth cromwell is the community relations manager for frederick county libraries. bed bugs discovered in books? that is a first. >> i've been here eight years. i've never heard of. this my director has never heard of this either. >> reporter: this is about one of a half dozen bed bugs collected from one of the children's books in the drop on heat advisory bin. those books are now sitting in the back of this truck baking. once the temperature reaches # 20 degrees it kills any remaining bugs. >> i think it is disgusting and i hope that they do

to julie wright with the latest on traffic for us. >> good morning to you both. we are to have a quiet start with no incidents reported if you are making the trip around town. you will find overnight roadwork at the ramp from 124 to exit onto # 70 is in the process of being cleared. -- from 124 to exit onto # 270 is in the process of being cleared. on the uner loop all traffic was being diverted offer onto westbound 66 where you can ride the ramps at nutley street to continue. again, all traffic was being diverted off at 66. there is a work zone on the inner loop at route 7 that had the right side blocked. no problems to reported east of nutley street continuing in towards the capital beltway. traffic running smoothly in each direction. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. >>> new this morning, tons of belongings dumped out on the street a d.c. woman is being kicked out of her home accused of not paying her bills. matt ac lapped joins -- ackland joins us with what is going. >> reporter: eloisa diaz says yesterday, they came to her door and told her she was being evicted. tak

has the latest for us. good morning, tucker. >> should be a fine-looking day but on the hot side with, once again, high temperatures back into the 90s. i know it is the first full day of fall but our temperatures will be back in the 90s. you can see the shower and thunderstorm activity well off the coast. still some leftover cloud cover and some fog across the area. it will be beautiful at least as far as sky conditions go but temperatures once again will soar into the 90s. 74degrees at reagan national. doing one of those nights where we don't cool off a lot. 67 at dulles. 67 in winchester. if you are thinking this weather is reminiscent of august, you are right and so is this high temperature. 91degrees, lots of sunshine. hot and humid out there this afternoon. more details on the weekend forecast. it will be cooler by saturday. i'll have those details in a minute. >>> neighbors in the close-knit lorton community are devastated. a fairfax county mom and two kids were killed in a house fire but the 24-year-old did manage to save three of her other children. alli anderson was seen hand

:30 begins now. >>> it is a wet tuesday morning. thank you for joining us early. tucker is in now to tell us about this weather that we're dealing with. yesterday, we had quite a bit of heavy rain. i came in 67 miles from west into the district and ran into just a few showers. >> well, we have more on the way. yesterday, we had tornado warnings. we had some problems across some of the area. others did not have any problems. some extremely heavy rain pushing up through front royal, cull pep eric leesburg, reston, you are right on the edge of it. you get the idea there, moving from south to red. you see the dark yellows and reds. we have a flash flood watch in effect for locally heavy rain until 8:00. humidity, 87%. feels very tropical out there. area of low pressure will pass to our west today and our conditions will improve as we have a frontal system through here. early rain, afternoon sun. some sun by newport and more sun by late this afternoon. highs in the low 80s. so temperature-wise, we will be nice. should be a gradual improvement. >> thank you. julie wright is in with a look at traff

of places. for us just warm temperatures this morning. thank you for joining us. i'm gurvir dhindsa. let's go straight over to tucker. >> you put it well there, the calm before the storm. temperatures right now running in the 70s. 77 in washington. we had some 60s off to the north and west. frederick, 72. ocean city, 75 where they are getting ready for earl to pass off to the east here during the next couple of days. satellite-radar showing very quiet conditions. not much at all happening. we are just sort of waiting for earl to arrive from the south and east and a cold front from the south and west. eventually, we'll get that out of here. 93degrees your afternoon high. a little warmer than that yesterday. a few degrees cooler than yesterday with just a few clouds associated with earl late in the day. winds will be out of the south at five to 10 miles per hour. more on earl coming up. category four hurricane, i'll give you the latest in just a second. >> there are other big stories we're following this morning. authorities are surveying the discovery communications headquarters in downto

barnes. he is cooping an eye on the weather for us. it will be a little warmer for us than yesterday? >> yes, a couple of degrees. today, we'll be near 90. we will have a cooldown as we get to the middle and the end of the week. let's get to the maps and talk temperatures. we were a little bit warmer than we were 24 hours ago. 70 in washington. 66? winchester. patuxent naval air station, 72. in ocean city, we are 70. still, temperatures generally comfortable across the area t will be on the warm side but it should be bright and sunny for another afternoon. there is your satellite-radar. the quiet conditions, we've got rain showers up across sections of new england and cloud cover well off the coast but we're in between the two and for us that spells more high pressure and more nice weather. so bright sunshine today. it will be warmer than it should be with highs as mentioned close to 90. mostly sunny skies and warmer than what would be typical for this year, 89. cooler weather on the way. i'll let you know if we have any rain on the way too. >> okay. thank you. >>> time for a look no

for joining us early. i'm gurvir dhindsa. let's go straight over to tucker to found out about our weather today. we got a bit of a reprieve from the rain but i guess it's coming back. >> coming back with a vengeance tonight. lets eight get to it, show you the satellite-radar. our fetch continues to be out of the south. increasingly cloudy out there. i think we might see a few peeks of sunshine to start the day. the rain showers which are across the carolinas will start to move in later this afternoon and particularly touring the nighttime hours and then we'll be in for a real soaker around here as we get the combination of an area of low pressure and the remnants of a tropical system moving through the area on thursday and we've got a flash flood watch because of that. temperatures right now are cool. a lot more comfortable than they were yesterday at this hour. lots of others out there. 55 at dulles international. 54 in frederick. # 7 for you to start your morning in ocean city. our highs later today will be in the low to mid-70s. increasingly cloudy. -- 57 for to you tart your morning i

to give us the latest. >> everybody in a good mood here. redskins win the first game of the season. that is a big one for them after last year. let's get to it. weather starting off on a nice note as well. wave got some fog out there and temperatures in the comfortable range. -- we've got some fog out there and temperature in the comfortable range. some fog has developed as we had some pretty good rain around here yesterday. needed some rain. you see the cloud cover generally east of us and if you look carefully, you see a little lingering cloud cover. it will be a beautiful afternoon as we'll have highs back into the low 80s. early fog, mostly sunny by afternoon. wind out of the west here at about 10 miles per hour. should be a die lightful day. no rain in the forecast today or the next couple of days -- should be a delightful day. >> thank you, tucker. >> there is a flag down at the 20-yard line. >> that is how the game ended last night. redskins beat the cowboys in the opener after a holding penalty. there was of a touchdown that would have set up the winning extra point attempt

nice and cool outside. thank you for joining us. i'm gurvir dhindsa. tba went is in for tucker this morning. >> compared to yesterday, where we actually broke a record at one of our airports, we are so much cooler. it is actually going to feel more like september. -- gwen is in for tuckerthiss morning. as can you see, clear skies across the area. we have a canadian ridge of high pressure that is building in, compliments of my country folk there. it is a cool ridge of high pressure. we are seeing pretty cool conditions as we start out this morning. just the odd cloud skirting around. not too much to be concerned with at all. 57degrees at national airport. it is only 58 in baltimore and 55 at gaithersburg. but we've got 61 degrees to the south as far as manassas is concerned and 66 degrees at fredericksburg. we'll continue to be on the cool side. so be prepared. today, as i said, much keeler than it was yesterday. we are talking mild and breezy. -- much cooler than it was yesterday. we are talking gusty winds in the course of this afternoon. be prepared for that. they will be gu
